Ole Edvart Rølvaag (1876-1931)
Ole Edvart Rølvaag from Røllvåg in Dønna is claimed to have one of the leading depiction in Scandinavia of the emigration to America in the 19th century. At the age of 20, he started his long journey from a small farm in Dønna across the ocean to a new world, America. Bringing to his new homeland, he only had limited schooling and some years in the fishing boat.
Rølvaag`s authorship is foremost very lively and capturing as he manages to convey the expectations of newcomers to a new life in America.
