5 Peaks in Øksningan

In Øksningan you find many peaks, which is not that high, but has a beautiful view.
The trails are not demanding and you are rewarded for every peak you climb with a magnificent view. Can you reach all five in one day? It is a good workout to combine the peaks with a cycling tour on the islands. Some of the peaks have marked trails and a box with a book you can write your name in.

Karifjellet (Ytter-Øksningan)

Located on Ytter-Øksningn. The peak has good access and is easy to walk. Great view of the ocean on the top.

Stortuva (Ytter-Øksningan)

Located right next to Karifjellet. This is the highest peak in Herøy if you do not have a boat (98 metres above sea level). Some may feel that the peak is steep, however it is good access and the trail is marked all the way up. From here you can see Træna, Lovund, The Seven Sisters, Dønnamannen and more.

Innerøyfjellet (Inner-Øksningan)

Access from “Drømmeplassen”, which has an open barbecue cabin, ballbinge and toilet. Innerøyfjellet is 91 metres above sea level. From here on the walks between the peaks are longer and the peaks are lower.

Storåsfjellet (Inner-Øksningan)

The top is reached via the marked trail to Gardsøytangen. See map.

Gårdsøytangen (Inner-Øksningan)

This peak is the most southern point. Here you can take a well-earned break under the roof of Knutly, named by the man who made it, Knut Aaseng.

The season is from 1th of May to the 20th of September, but you can also walk the trails during winter.
